Jim Fielder, was appointed Positively UK’s gay men’s support worker in early 2015, he quickly established a successful monthly Gay Talk Group, held on the first Saturday of every month and the Gay Talk Social which takes place on the third Thursday of every month (held in a different bars and alternating with a Gay Talk Cinema night). Jim will be talking about his role at Positively UK, highlighting current/upcoming initiatives , with a brief story of how the charity has evolved and it’s vision for the challenges of the immediate future.
In 1987 two women living with HIV, finding that no services for women existed, took matters into their own hands, placing hand-drawn posters at clinics and inviting other women to meet in their living room. From this the charity Positively Women, was founded in 1992, with its ethos of peer led support. Over time new communities came to them seeking peer-led support including parents, heterosexual men, newly diagnosed gay men, and young people – and to reflect the inclusion of all these communities, the charity became Positively UK, in 2006.
