GayTalk Cinema is the popular movie evening at Positively UK – making use of brand new equipment in the training room. The evening alternates with the Gay Talk Social which takes place on the third Thursday of every month.
Menacing and explicitly sexual. Alain Guiraudie’s, L’Inconnu du lac, or Stranger by the Lake, is a psychological suspense drama set at a French lakeside cruising spot for gay men. Throughout the summer, guys drive up; they park in some patchy clearing, then walk down to the pebbly lakeside in singles and couples. They sunbathe and go swimming, mostly naked, then stroll back into the surrounding woodland, for casual sex, bareback or with condoms, while other guys look on.
Franck frequents his local cruising spot each day; sunbathing, swimming and admiring the bronzed bodies of the men. One day Franck strikes up a conversation with divorcé Henri, and while a friendship blossoms between the two men, Franck’s sexual interest is piqued by the mysterious Michel. But desire turns to unease when Franck witnesses an act of violence and finds his life in jeopardy. This enigmatic meditation on love, sex and murderous desire is a deeply unconventional thriller distinguished by a deceptive tranquility. Presenting sexual activity with hardcore abandon, the director transforms his cruising ground into a verdant labyrinth of perilous possibility. Beneath the surface of carefree hedonism lies a shrewd critique of the dangers of anonymous encounters and the illicit thrills of risk taking.
Drinks and popcorn will be served from 6.30pm with the film starting promptly at 7pm.
