Time Out Country Walks Book 1 Walk 30, Wivenhoe Circular
Wivenhoe is a remarkable village bursting with waterside activity, on the banks of the Colne Estuary in Essex. Our walk is tide dependant and the ferry Wivenhoe-Rowhedge runs every 20 mins, two hours either side of High Tide (ferry fare around one pound). Swans frequently block the main high street in Rowhedge and from there through woodland controlled by Ministry of Defence and used on occasions used as a firing range. The last part takes us to the lovely Norman Church of St Open and St Andrew in Fingeringhoe with its chequerboard design of banded flint. There are lots of pubs, it is suggested we have picnic lunch on the River Colne with all its exciting activity on show. Expect four and three-quarter hours of walking time.
Walking is always a great day, out exploring in the fresh countryside air, it can be the prefect tonic away from the mental clutter from everyday London life. It’s a full day out, but it should blow away all your cobwebs …
