56 Dean Street and St Anne’s Church Soho have put together a non-religious event on World AIDS day; the church will be open from 4pm for anyone to go and light a candle and remember a loved one, and be in the company of friendly people who care and share your feelings. At 6pm, there will be some short presentations to listen to; Vernal Scott, who will be reading from his acclaimed book; God’s Other Children – A London Memoir. Vernal was very active in the 80/90’s in HIV/AIDS and personally lost family members and friends which he describes in his book, which is really moving and captures the time well. One of the medical staff from 56 Dean Street will also be speaking, saying where we are now and looking to the future. There will also be a surprise guest speaker! (A member of the Gay Men’s Group). There will then be an opportunity to call out the names of friends and loved ones.
